The united states agency for international development
(USAID) in collaboration with PLAN GHANA under its transition and persistence
(TAP) junior high school projects has officially handed over an ultra-modern
information communication technology center, a six unit repaired school block,
library complex and improved sanitary facility for the TROM basic school in the
NEW JUABENG municipality of the eastern region.
The USAID junior high school projects is an $11.2 million
three year projects in partnership with PLAN GHANA, the projects seeks to
increase junior high school enrollment and completion rates in 156 junior high
school in thirteen district selected from the BRONG AHAFO REGION, CENTRAL
REGION, EASTERN REGION and the GREATER ACCRA REGION.
The objectives of the projects are to increase the number of
improved spaces available for junior high school enrolment in targeted
district, increase junior high school enrolment, improving teacher quality
strengthening district level Ghana education service oversight provide more
diverse and innovative educational opportunities for children promote community
involvement and ownership as well as increase junior high school performance and
completion rate.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the eastern regional
director of education who had her speech read by BARBERA VIDA NTOW stated that
nations are developed on the intellectual capacity and human resource of its
members adding that it is not out of place for PLAN GHANA to have educational
programs which is the right to quality basic inclusive education with the
emphasis on improving enrolment, retention, completion and performance.
She added that the I.C.T and a library center in the TROM
basic school is an indication of the readiness of PLAN GHANA to move the school
in the communities where it operates to be abreast with things around them.
She however urged the students to seize the opportunity of
the facilities and make good use of them.
Speaking on behalf of the country director of PLAN
GHANA,PREM SHUKLA, the projects coordinator
RAPHEAL BOKUMAH implored the school management committee to ensure
strict maintenance culture to preserve the facilities so that it can serve the
students for long time.
